About the name

“Hoiyo” is what you say when you hand something over.

In Japanese, it’s a warm, casual “here you go!” Some things aren’t worth selling, but they’re too good to throw away. Hoiyo makes it easy to pass them on to someone nearby — no money, no haggling, no shipping.

Two-way star ratings

Rate each other 1–5 stars after every handoff. Your average, pickups and cancellation rate are shown to your next match.

Limits against hoarding

There are caps on how many items you can hold at once and how many requests you can make each day. Taking items to resell is not allowed.

Limits for new members. They grow to 5 and 30 with ID verification or a good track record.

Phone check and 18+

Hoiyo is for adults 18 and over. Your phone number is verified by SMS before you list or request.

Prohibited items are stopped before listing

Knives, medicine, alcohol, tobacco, live animals and more are caught from the photo and description. You can report or block anyone, anytime.

Is it really free?

Yes. Listing and receiving are both free — no money, fees or shipping. Hoiyo is supported by in-app ads.

Can items be shipped?

No. Hand items over at a public spot like a station or park, or at the entrance — or choose contactless pickup so you don’t have to meet.

What can I give away?

Most things that still work — furniture, appliances, books, clothes, kids’ items, plants, kitchenware and more. Some items can’t be listed, such as knives, medicine, alcohol, tobacco and live animals.

Will people know where I live?

The feed and map only show a rough location, shifted 90–240 m from the real one. The exact pickup spot goes only to the one person you choose.

What about people who take things to resell?

There are caps on how many items you can hold at once and how many requests you can make each day. People who take too much too fast, or cancel often, are asked to verify their identity. Reselling is prohibited by our terms.

What if someone doesn’t show up?

When the hold time runs out, the reservation is canceled and the item goes back up. People who were waiting are notified, and the giver can choose again. The no-show counts as a cancellation on the receiver’s record.

Who can use Hoiyo?

Anyone 18 or older. You’ll verify your phone number by SMS before you list or request.

When can I start?
