Frequently asked questions

Is it really free?

Yes. Listing and receiving are both free — no money, fees or shipping. Hoiyo is supported by in-app ads.

Can items be shipped?

No. Hand items over at a public spot like a station or park, or at the entrance — or choose contactless pickup so you don’t have to meet.

What can I give away?

Most things that still work — furniture, appliances, books, clothes, kids’ items, plants, kitchenware and more. Some items can’t be listed, such as knives, medicine, alcohol, tobacco and live animals.

Will people know where I live?

The feed and map only show a rough location, shifted 90–240 m from the real one. The exact pickup spot goes only to the one person you choose.

What about people who take things to resell?

There are caps on how many items you can hold at once and how many requests you can make each day. People who take too much too fast, or cancel often, are asked to verify their identity. Reselling is prohibited by our terms.

What if someone doesn’t show up?

When the hold time runs out, the reservation is canceled and the item goes back up. People who were waiting are notified, and the giver can choose again. The no-show counts as a cancellation on the receiver’s record.

Who can use Hoiyo?

Anyone 18 or older. You’ll verify your phone number by SMS before you list or request.

When can I start?

We’re getting ready to launch. Hoiyo is coming to the App Store and Google Play.
